March is roaring in with a c-c-cold northwind today! Walking with Austin at the dog park, I thought my nose was going to freeze! Sitting here by my window I am having a hard time warming up! Spring, PLEASE COME!
I have entered the Lake Country Art Gallery members juried show and I will find out tomorrow if the two paintings I submittted are selected! Crossing my fingers! Below are the two paintings and the artist's statement I submitted. Family members - do you recognise these buildings??

“Abandoned - Grandma’s Outhouse” 5”X7” knife painted acrylic on canvas board.
“Abandoned - Is the Power Out?” 8”X10” knife painted acrylic on canvas board
"The two works I have submitted are the part of a series that I am working on that I call “Abandoned” and are painted with a palette knife. They are buildings that still exist in my hometown in Saskatchewan, which was near the farm I grew up. Forgan is now a ghost town. While the knife creates a looser work, I had to be more precise in laying the strokes. I feel that this approach has helped me take the feelings of loss I have for these abandoned places and instead bring out the beauty of the wildness and loneliness when nature claims these manmade structures."
Writing an artist' statement is new to me. I really had to think about why I wanted to paint these pieces, and I felt I needed to join the use of a painting knife with the outcome. I'm not sure others would think of loneliness or wildness when looking at these, but because they are my memories, it is apparent to me!
