I have lots of snowy tree photos and I composed this painting from one of those photos. I enjoyed getting back to using the palette knife and this subject lends itself well. The background is very busy in the photo and using a knife to slide wet paint over a bumpy dry background of paint really helps create that sense of texture found in a real forest. I think I may do a larger one similar to this piece. The area to the right looks a bit busy so I will do one with less colour and strokes to compare!
