Wow...tired right now from all day at Art Walk!! But what a great show! I'll be there tomorrow too. I'm posting today's and tomorrow's paintings at once for the 30 day challenge. This work is a diptych (2 works representing 1).
This was my submission to the Lake Country Art Gallery's Art Walk Theme Exhibit. All artists in Art Walk were invited to submit to the exhibit and pieces were juried into the show. I hadn't heard anything about whether mine had been accepted (many of my artists friends had heard Wed. nite).
I went through my own inner dialogue of rejection...and acceptance. I understand how personal art is and how subjective it is. I needed to make this piece. It's a social statement about how I feel as a woman about stereotypical roles...I've always been a tomboy as a girl and a woman! These paintings were inspired by this photo:

Yep! That's me in the cute red dress and with the baby carriage. That's my older brother (who I adored) in the shiny red push pedal sports car. While I loved my dolly...REALLY, who wouldn't want a flashy red sports car...COME ON! See the look of longing on my face. I remember being soooo disappointed with the doll carriage. I really wanted the car! I remember that Christmas clearly...I think I was 3 or 4 years old. And it shaped me to be a feminist, out of the box, if somewhat shy person...but to this day when I think about being a confident strong woman I think of this photo. And I'm proud. So for the Artwalk Theme of shoes...Stepping Out - this is my contribution. A juxtaposition of female and male roles over time!...Girls and women Stepping Out and Stepping Forward!! BE PROUD LADIES! ...and guys too of course stepping out be great men!!
Oh and after I went through all that inner dialogue about rejection...I discovered that my acceptance email from the gallery went into the computer internet ether...I just didn't get the email. So yes, its in the Lake Country Art Gallery for this month's exhibit! Come see it if you are in town!! Isn't it funny what stories we tell ourselves!!
