I have been busy this week with 3 more small paintings.
I decided to paint two aspen tree pictures and extend my "By the Sea" into horses. I seem to have a few more "By the Sea" paintings in me and will keep doing them until I'm done! These are done on 6"X6" canvas. I actually did 4 paintings this week but I forgot to take a picture of the last one before we gave it as a gift to Isaac's teaching assistant. It's another "By the Sea" theme, depicting a woman playing with her dog...she has a Jack Russell so I made sure the dog was shaped like one!). She's going away this week so I'll need to get her to take a photo of it when she gets back after the holidays!
I enjoyed creating the aspen pictures...I love trees and I have some favourite artist that do lovely aspen paintings. I'll post links to these artist in a future post. I'm still working on how colours work and how important value and contrast are in establishing the success of a painting or drawing. The books I've studied all seem to indicate that once you've nailed value in your composition, any colour can be used. Later this week I'll post links to books I've been studying.

The weather has been grand and I've been out with the dog in the woods nearly daily. We took a day off school on Friday and I took this picture of the boys and Austin playing on our nearby hiking trail.
Although I don't have pictures, I was very lucky this week to view a bald eagle flying over my head very close and to see an entire flock of Canada geese come from afar and circle noisily 3 times above Austin and I, then land with amazing majesty and then utter silence...these are hard experiences to explain with words. Just a very peaceful experience and I felt that rare feeling of being in tune with nature on two cold winter days.
